All About Tea What is Tea?
|
|
Ok while taking a look at past newsletters in hope of inspiration for some new articles,
we discovered that Indonique, a tea company, never bothered to write much about tea.
For instance, did you know that all tea comes from the same plant? Do you know the difference
between an Herbal, a Tea and a Tisane?
There's a whole world of tea, the second most consumed beverage in the world,
waiting for you out there. If you're interested in everything tea,
where it comes from, how it's made, tea grading, the works, visit this link on our web site.

Tea History
Assam Tea
|
| A succession of Chinese Emperors guarded the secret of tea for 200 years,
assuring a monopoly of the lucrative trade with hungry Europeans. By royal decree, anyone discussing tea with a European
or teaching Chinese to a European could be punished with beheading. The threat worked
marvelously well. It wasn't until the 1820s that this monopoly came to an end when a Scottish officer the employ of the East
Indian Tea Trading Company noticed native Assamese drinking Tea! Further research by the
officer revealed that the business of tea was also an old one as fields of wild tea were
discovered growing in Assam in rows of rectangular plots. Negotiations began with local
chiefs to learn the trade and the first commercial tea fields in India began.
Indonique sells a wonderful Assam Breakfast Tea from this very region. Look for the full story, in a series,
in future newsletters!
